Weak Smell


Smelling Your Pura Should Be the Easiest Part

Can't smell your Pura fragrances?  Don't worry!  We are happy to help.  There are many reasons why you might not be able to smell your Pura fragrances, so to ensure you get the most from your fragrance, let's look into some of these variables:

Fragrance Strength

First, not all of our fragrances have the same strength or range. We have three different strengths, ranging from "Subtle", "Medium", and "Strong". To see what strength our fragrances are, visit the fragrance page in our store and filter the fragrances into "Subtle", "Medium", or "Strong" on the left side of the page. You can also adjust the fragrance intensity from 1-10 using the Pura App.

Low Fragrance

The Pura App features a setting that will let you know if your fragrance has a "Low", "Medium", or "High" fragrance level left.  When it reaches a low level, the fragrance can be diminished, even if there is some oil remaining inside. Not all of our vials will burn the oil all the way down to the bottom.

In addition, we recommend manually checking the oil levels in your device by removing the vial. On the side of the fragrance vial, there should be a clear strip where you will be able to see how much oil is remaining. If the oil level is very low, we recommend replacing that fragrance.

Note: The fragrance level feature in the app is based off of customer usage:

  • High oil level is based on 151+ hours remaining
  • Medium oil level is based on 51-100 hours remaining
  • Low oil level is based on 0-50 hours remaining

Device Run-time

Your Pura Device is controlled through the Pura Mobile App. Multiple features are available that can start and stop the device from running at different times or via different triggers. If your device is not running or heating, there will obviously be less or no scent produced. When experiencing issues with weak or low smell, it is important to check your device to ensure it is running when you expect it to be.

If your device is running but is not heating, this could be an issue with your device. Contact our Customer Support Team for more assistance and information. 


There is a possibility you may experience issues smelling your fragrance if the device is placed near an air vent in your home. Cool air can cause the fragrance to fall to the floor and be more fragrant close to the ground. As well, placing your Pura Device near an air intake vent may cause the fragrance to be ingested by your ventilation and eventually trapped by in-home air filters, even when the device is not running.

It is also not recommended to place and run your Pura Device near open windows or exiting doors since this directs the fragrance flow towards outside of your home.

Heating Test
To ensure your device is working properly and heating up, you can perform the following test on your device:
  • Diffuse a fragrance on the left side of your device for at least 30 minutes on a level 10 intensity, then feel the top left hole on your device to see if it warms up or not. Repeat this process on the right side.

Note: If your device is not heating up, this may be not be an issue with the fragrance. Please contact our Customer Support Team for more assistance.
